This is a shocking story which took place in West Africa where a tribe of chimpanzees beat up, murdered and then ate a member of their own tribe. A 17-year-old chimp named Foudouko was the poor victim.
Interestingly, it is being said that the murder took place because of a tense political situation among them. In 2005, in a 10-square-mile stretch of savanna in southeastern Senegal, an ape named Foudouko ascended to power and ruled over more than 30 western chimpanzees.
However, the aggressive leadership was not well received and when Mamadou (deputy and closest ally of Foudouko) suffered a leg injury the tribe seized the opportunity to stand up to Foudouko.
It is understood that chimps, like humans, kill for many reasons. It might be to expand the territory, to impress mates or to protect their food.
