Linda Hoey, 58, who hails from Amrington in Tamworth, claimed £65,244 in disability benefits, and used a motability vehicle to avoid £15,690 in M6 Toll fees, as per a Metro story.
She was recently caught committing disability benefits cheat when photos of herself snorkelling on a holiday in the Maldives, were passed to the Department for Work and Pensions
She also falsely stated she could barely walk because of bad back pain that she needs a stick, walk backwards down the stairs, and use furniture for support.
Her disability living allowance from January 1995 was, however, initially true with medical evidence given in court; however, she had extremely exaggerated to justify the claims while remaining in work.
According to reports, she has been deceiving the authorities for 15 years before her lies were revealed, including her being in paid employment since 1997.
Crown Court Judge Michael Elsom told her she was ‘someone whose word cannot be trusted’; sentencing her at Stafford Crown Court.
Elsom added that Linda was given an 18-month jail sentence, suspended for two years, and a six months electronic curfew, after telling “bare-faced lies” to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
“At the time you were telling those lies you were actually going to work every day, driving yourself to work every day and you were observed walking,” Elsom told her.
“I hardly think you merit the description your daughter gave you, as someone to whom she can look up to as a role model,” the Crown Court judge continued.
“If that’s the sort of role model that your daughter thinks is appropriate – that’s a very great shame indeed.”
