For every parent babies are God’s blessings, but not every parent is able to have a child that is born healthy. Sadly, there are many babies who are born with severe health issues that put a lot of emotional and financial stress on their families. But, God works miracles and he is always working for our good!
Back in 2003, Brianne Jourdin gave birth to her precious little baby girl. She named her baby Kenadie, but the little girl only weighed in at 2.5 pounds and measured just 11 inches in length. Not only was the baby small, but part of Kenadie’s brain was missing. The nurses who were caring for Brianna and Kenadie called the little girl “Thumbelina.” Doctors then informed Brianne about her daughter’s condition and said that the little girl would most likely die from the severe brain damage she had. In fact, they gave her just days to live.
The mother took Kenadie to be baptized the day she was born. “It was like mourning,” Brianne said. “The idea of all of the life that you imagined for your child has suddenly been taken away.” But, Kenadie lived past the expectancy the doctors gave her. And, at 8 months old, Kennedy was diagnosed with a rare form of primordial dwarfism. This condition can cause premature aging, bone fragility, respiratory issues, and many more scary medical issues. But, after 14 years, Kenadie is still alive and she is thriving! This little girl is still baffling the doctors that once said she wouldn’t make it.
Two of Kenadie’s biggest passions are swimming and ice skating. For a little girl who wasn’t even supposed to live longer than one day, Kenadie has a full social life that is packed with skating classes, swimming lessons, and playing with friends after school.
Kenadie’s, brother is only 10-years-old, Tyran, but he towers over. Despite the extreme size differences between the two siblings, they get along just like any other brother and sister would! They have their days, but Kenadie won’t let her small size hold her back from living a full life with her family!
“She’s kind-hearted, she is loving and wants to share everything with everyone. She is feisty, determined and independent,” Brianne said that Kenadie is just like other children when it comes to following her passion, and she couldn’t be more proud of her little girl’s achievements! “It makes me proud– it makes me cry– I cry every time she’s on the skating rink. Everything she does I cry,” Brianne said. “She has definitely proved all those doctors wrong. She had defied all odds. She has overcome so many obstacles.”
Now, little Kenadie is making a way for herself by staying positive, but, still the road ahead is filled with obstacles. She faces some serious medical threats, in particular, fragile and thin bones, somethings that are for the condition she has. Along with that, Kenadie also faces the danger of developing scoliosis or an aneurysm. These issues are not easy to deal with, and it scared Brianne deeply.
“Having Kenadie definitely tested my faith many times – watching her struggle isn’t easy,” Brianne said. “It’s a reality we’ll lose her – I lose my breath for a moment thinking about it. My hope for the future for Kenadie is just that she is happy and that she finds things that make her happy and make her smile.” Watch sweet Kenadie and her mom in the video below:
