A 92-year-old man has been inflicted with horrific injuries. The police have released the images of the injuries in order to hunt down the attacker.
The elderly woman has been violently mugged by her attacker leaving her black and blue. She recently lost her husband of 70 years.
According to the police her attacker is a schizophrenic who has been on the run from a secure unit since May.
Sanchez Edwards, the attacker, assaulted the pensioner in London’s East End on Tuesday June 27th. The police officers believed that the attacker is ‘dangerous and violent’.
In the shocking CCTV footage it is seen that the 92-year-old widow has been screaming screaming as she was dragged along the ground trying desperately to stop the callous thug from snatching her handbag in Hoxton last week.
Since May, Edwards has been missing from the John Howard Centre medium secure unit in nearby Homerton. He was reportedly spotted at Bethnal Green Tube Station on Monday July 3 following the attack.
Last year on January 29, Edwards, a paranoid schizophrenic with a history of drug use, had been admitted to the centre.
He was also convicted and sentenced to an unrestricted hospital order under the Mental Health Act for an assault on a member of hospital staff.
After releasing the CCTV footage detectives are trying to locate him showing the pensioner being dragged several feet along the ground screaming as a hooded robber wrenched her bag off her.
On June 27th she was attacked from behind while she out to post a letter and was headed to the Lawson Medical Centre off Hoxton Street.
Graphic footage shows the mugger using so much force the woman is pulled to the ground.
But, refusing to let go of her bag, police say she was dragged until she was ‘in so much pain that she eventually let go.’
The attacker ran off leaving her black and blue in the gutter. The pensioner suffered extensive bruising all over her body, with the most severe on her ribs and side where she was dragged along the floor.
When the handbag was dragged down she suffered a three inch bruise to her left arm.
Family say the victim has been left incredibly distraught and terrified of leaving her house.
Detective Inspector Paul Ridley from Hackney CID is leading the investigation. He said: ’The injuries to the victim are alarming and harrowing, and in addition to pursuing Edwards for this violent robbery and absconding from the mental health unit, he has also inflicted serious grievous bodily harm to the victim.’
‘I have been in contact with the victim’s family who have been closely supporting her. The lady remains extremely distraught, will not leave the house as she is terrified and has re-occurring nightmares of her ordeal. She finds it difficult to sleep particularly due to the excruciating pain of her injuries.’
‘I need to re-iterate my warning about Sanchez Edwards. He is a violent, dangerous and unpredictable individual. Please do not approach him, but call 999 if seen.
The further time that elapses, the heightened risk he is to members of the public as he becomes increasingly desperate. He may commit offences to fuel his drug addiction.’
‘You will notice from the recent images that he is no longer wearing the blue jacket which was seen in the robbery, but dark clothing, perhaps in a bid to evade detection,’ he added.
‘He is likely to be travelling on buses and underground trains across London, so please remain highly vigilant.
‘All officers are on alert including the British Transport Police who will act on any information received as a priority.
‘My team are working tirelessly to locate Edwards, I am acutely aware of the public’s concern.’
Edwards is described as a dark skinned black man, 5ft 9ins, with short black hair, medium build and a black beard.
