A 94-year-old widow faced a hefty fine of up to $2,500 per day after one of her relatives kept dumping garbage into her backyard for years.
But the poor old lady didn’t know what to do, so she ended up making a call.
The mess in Agnes Maples’s backyard just kept on piling up, while she was unable to get rid of it. “I tried to get him to get it out. It was terrible. All kinds of garbage,” Agnes told CBN.
When her neighbors called the authorities to complain, Agnes was slapped with a fine of up to $2,500 a day, but due to her old age, she had no way to remove the trash herself.
Agnes not only needed help with cleaning up the yard, she also needed someone to repair her roof.
“My roof had gotten bad and there was animals getting in,” Agnes said. “I didn’t know what to do. I wasn’t able to do it and I know I couldn’t do it.”
She decided to call a faith-based charity, Operation Blessing, to ask for help, and they were happy to oblige.
“They’re angels. They came in and cleaned out all the stuff, tore the shed down and tore the trailer down and taken everything out,” Agnes said.
The charity did more than just clean up her yard, however.
The charity recruited help from volunteers at Regent University to repair Agnes’s roof. Apart from this, the volunteers even put in some flower beds, cleaned her shed, and laid a pathway through the yard.
“They started working and they sure did do a good job,” Agnes said. “And they’re all my little angels. And I never will forget them. And I love them.”
The volunteers ended the day with one more surprise for Agnes: an air conditioner.
“They asked me what I needed. And I said, ‘I need an air conditioner. Please get me an air conditioner.’ And they surprised me with one,” Agnes said. “God bless them and they’re wonderful. And I love them all. I’ve been blessed and blessed and God has never left me. He’s still with me.”
