Soon there will be a minimum speed limit on certain highways in Qatar. A senior official said on a radio programme that the highways will have a maximum and minimum speed limit. Minimum speed is necessary as the vehicles moving too slowly could cause accident.
Brigadier General Mohammed Saad Al-Kharji, Director of the General Directorate of Traffic, said, “The minimum speed, like maximum speed, will be introduced on highways like F-Ring Road, Shamal Highway, Dukhan and Bu Samra highways. These highways have a maximum speed of 120km/h and should have a minimum speed of 80km/h because very slow vehicles pose danger to other vehicles.”
It was also revealed that the prime minister and the minister of interior H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani has asked for a special parking space for elderly. Al-Kharji said that plan is on to come up with electronic signage in main streets to display changes in speed limit as per the condition of the road.
