Gold Coast tobacconist Travers Beynon says Instagram has ‘discriminated’ against him by shutting down his Candy Shop Mansion account.
The account, which had close to 800,000 followers, was shut down on February 10 without notice.
‘We have had zero response from Instagram despite daily communication to them, no response as to why or how to reinstate, really quite poor given the number of followers our brand has,’ Mr Beynon told the Courier Mail.
‘The last couple of posts prior to it being pulled were tame, just appears to be discrimination. But an explanation from Instagram or a response would assist us in knowing.’
Candy Shop Mansion event manager Belinda Gavin told Daily Mail Australia the account shut down has been troublesome for the brand.
‘It’s been destructive for us because we were just about to roll out more marketing,’ she said.
‘It’s discriminatory because loads of other accounts out there have worse content.’
The Candy Shop Mansion is the swanky Gold Coast home of tobacco tycoon Travers Beynon. It’s notorious for its parties, where the scantly-clad guests are handpicked by The Candyman himself.
‘For years, it has been a hushed hot spot of the elite, a haven to escape normality and enter a world of fantasy and freedom,’ it’s website says.
The Instagram account gave a glimpse into the wild parties where the DJ’s are half naked and the dress code heavily features bikinis but fur and leather are never far off.
‘Instagram is how we communicate with our fans,’ said Belinda.
‘There’s a bunch of haters out there reporting us. We’re in discussion with our lawyers to see what our next option is.’
The Candyman, who owns FreeChoice Australia, provides food, drinks and entertainment for free with the self-indulgent parties costing up to 500k to put on.
To score an invitation to his massive Freaks Unleashed house party last year prospective party goers had to send a photo and fill out a questionnaire which asked them to open up about their freakiest personalities.
Described as Australia’s Hugh Hefner, Beynon lives in the mansion with his wife, girlfriend and up to four other women each night.
‘Travers is a provocative entertainer – there are no boundaries he won’t exceed,’ the Candy Shop Mansion website says.
‘Beautiful women, designer clothing and fast cars do not define Travers. What defines him is his desire to break the rules, challenge mindsets and redefine entertainment.’
For now, The Candyman’s personal Instagram account, which is dominated by pictures of fast cars and scantily clad girls is still active on the site.
