Shingles medically termed as herpes zoster is a secondary outbreak of the chicken pox virus. It is a viral infection which causes painful viral rash anywhere on the body but most of the times it appears as a single strip of blisters either on left or right side of chest.
What Causes Shingles:
Shingles is caused by chickenpox virus known as varicella-zoster. The infection is secondary and can occur even after a decade of the original infection. After you have chickenpox, the virus lies inactive in nerve tissue near the spinal cord and brain. Years later, the virus reactivates as shingles, appearing in circular patterns.
