Photographer Jo-Anne McArthur recently won the Wildlife Photographer of the Year People’s Choice Award. She beat out more than 50,000 other submissions.
While all of the photographs are beautiful in their own way, the one Jo-Anne took really stands out from the crowd. When you see it and hear her story, you’ll see why!
The photograph features Pikin, a lowland gorilla, in the arms of Appolinaire Ndohoudou. When it was taken he had just freed her from being sold for bushmeat. The look of tranquil gratefulness on her face really says it all!
It’s easy to see why this photo took home the gold!
